Recommended
Chrome or Edge, current version, on a laptop or desktop. Everything works there, including screen sharing and the full monitoring set.
Also fine for most stages
Safari and Firefox handle assessments and video interviews. Some monitoring features are unavailable in them — where a stage needs one, you are told during the system check rather than mid-interview.
Not suitable
Internet Explorer. Browsers embedded inside other apps — opening an interview link from inside a chat or social app puts you in a stripped-down browser with no camera permission and no way to grant one. Copy the link into a real browser.
Phones and tablets
Technically possible for some assessments; a poor idea for anything monitored. A phone cannot share a screen, the camera moves whenever you touch anything, a call interrupts the sitting, and the on-screen keyboard consumes half the display.
If a phone is genuinely your only device, say so to the organisation before the interview rather than struggling through it.
Safe Exam Browser
Some assessments require SEB, a separate application that locks the machine down. Where a stage needs it, the link installs and launches it, and permissions belong to SEB rather than to your ordinary browser.
SEB does not run on phones or tablets at all.
Extensions
Ad blockers and privacy extensions occasionally block the media connections an interview needs. If the system check fails in a way nothing else explains, try a private window with extensions disabled — it is quick and it isolates the cause.
