Do the system check early
The link you were sent works before your interview starts, and walking through the system check the day before is the single most useful thing you can do. It confirms your camera, microphone, browser and connection, and every problem it finds is easier to fix with a day in hand than with two minutes.
Doing the check does not start the interview or use up your attempt.
Your room
- Light on your face, not behind you. A window behind you turns you into a silhouette, and face monitoring works less well on a silhouette.
- Something plain behind you if you can manage it.
- Quiet. Background speech is the most common reason audio is flagged.
- One screen. Some interviews check for a second display and will ask you to disconnect it.
Your equipment
Use a laptop or desktop with a real keyboard. Wired internet beats wireless; wireless beats mobile data. Headphones with a microphone give better audio than laptop speakers and reduce echo.
Close everything you do not need — other browser tabs, chat apps, and anything that shows notifications. Many interviews detect switching away from the tab, and a message popping up is the usual reason it happens by accident.
Practice interviews
If your dashboard offers practice interviews, use them. A practice interview runs the same player with the same timing, so you find out what it feels like to answer aloud, on the clock, before it counts. Practice runs are yours: they are not shared with any employer.
