The tiers
Five, and the first four are presets rather than free-form configuration:
- Off — nothing is watched. The interview still records if recording is on.
- Light — presence and device health. Guidance rather than warnings.
- Strict — adds face and audio monitoring, tab-switch detection, warnings to the candidate.
- Max — adds screen sharing and stricter thresholds.
- Custom — your own combination, for when none of the above is right.
Where a setting comes from
Monitoring resolves through a cascade, most specific winning: platform default → your organisation → organisation per stage type → position → position per stage type → the flow's stage → the individual interview.
That is why a setting you changed on the organisation may not appear on a stage that overrides it, and the stage editor shows you which layer answered.
What each monitor does
- Face presence — is a person there, and is it the same person.
- Multiple faces — is somebody else in frame.
- Audio — is another voice present.
- Tab and window switching — has the candidate left the interview.
- Multiple displays — is a second screen connected.
- Screen share — what is on the candidate's screen.
Proportionality
Max on a first-round screening is usually the wrong instrument: it lengthens setup, adds failure modes, and produces flags nobody will read on candidates you have not met. Reach for it where the stakes justify the friction.
What the candidate is told
Whatever you turn on, the candidate is told before it starts and must agree. There is no setting that watches somebody without their knowledge, and there will not be one.
